New York boy

Timothée is an American actor and he was born (and raised) in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, New York City, on 27th December 1995. He is 22 years old, he's a Capricorn and he is 5'11' tall.

He was born to Nicole Flender, a real estate broker and dancer, and Marc Chalamet, a UNICEF editor. His father is French and his mother is American. Timothée's mother is Jewish (of half Austrian Jewish and half Russian Jewish ancestry).

Timothée comes from a family devoted to the movie and theatre industry. His sister is actress Pauline Chalamet. His uncle (his mother's brother) is director Rodman Flender. Timothée's maternal grandfather was writer and screenwriter Harold Flender. He is also the nephew of writer, producer and director Amy Lippman.

Lil Timmy

Timothée is the french from Timothy. His name is properly pronounced "Timo-TAY" but he is fine with any pronunciation. He has several nicknames, including Teemo, Timmy, and Tim.

Truly an artist

Timmy plays the piano and the guitar (you can see him perform both instruments in "Call me by your name"). He also speaks French fluently and learned how to speak Italian while shooting that film, too.

Favourite saying

Timothée's favorite saying in Italian is "voglio fare una grande cagata" which in English translates to "I want to take a big shit". He has a very good sense of humor.

His famous friend

Timothée attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts together with young actor Ansel Elgort. On a recent post on Instagram, Ansel wrote that Timmy and him shared the same basketball team, the same drama teacher and the same science teacher, and that he was very excited to be both nominated to a Golden Globe.

Timothée originally got rejected to LaGuardia High School, but the drama teacher (who auditioned him to get into the school) had a talk with the principal to get him admitted.

Mascot boy

Want a fun fact? Timmy was actually the mascot of his basketball team back in LaGuardia High School. He was also a big fan of the Power Rangers while growing up.

Yu Gi Oh

On an interview, Timmy confessed he was a Yu Gi Oh fan and that he even had a costume of it for a Halloween party when he was about 10 or 11 years old.

50 Cent

The first record Timothée ever got was 50 Cent's "Get rich or die trying" when he was 8 or 9 years old. He recalls the record had the parental advisory sticker on it but her mom bought it anyways and he thought that was really cool from her.

His pet

While he was growing up, their parents bought him a turtle which was named Ertl. And in an interview with Vogue magazine he revealed he still got Ertl the turtle with him!

Columbia and Timmy were not meant to be

Timmy also attended Columbia for a year but he later dropped out. In an interview he said that maybe that wasn't the right place for him and he sees it as a "structured environment".

Soccer player

Before becoming an actor, he wanted to play soccer professionally. He was a coach at a soccer camp in France. He coached 6 to 10-year-olds when he was around 13 and he was really good at it but the pay was not that good.

Started from the bottom now he’s here

He had appeared in commercials and on the theatre scene before hitting roles in tv series or movies. Everybody, including him, started from the very bottom, despite family influences.

First role

His first 2 roles, according to IMDB, were in the horror short "Sweet Tooth" and the short "Clown". He was the protagonist in both of them. A good way to start his career!

TV movie debut

His tv movie debut was on the 2009 drama "Loving Leah". Where he played the young version of the protagonist. He was only 13 years old, he was just starting his profitable career!

First tv series

His following roles were on the 1990 tv series "Law & Order", where he played Eric Foley on one episode in 2009 and on the 2009 tv series "Royal Pains" where he played Luke in four episodes in 2012. Fun fact: her sister, Pauline, participated in the series as well.

Homeland 1

Timmy appeared in 8 episodes on Showtime's Homeland in 2012. He played Finn Walden, the vice president's son. His character was involved in a hit and run accident and was later killed in a terrorist attack.

Homeland 2

In an interview, he expressed himself about his character on Homeland: "When I watched back, I always felt like there were moments where I just played the antagonist, as opposed to finding the real human in that."

He said that his role as Finn Walden helped him shape his character as Kyle Scheible in the also Oscar nominee film "Lady Bird" because he plays an antagonist too (of Saoirse Ronan), but he also hoped to bring humanity to his role. And he definitely did.

Film debut

He made his film debut in 2014, as high school student Danny Vance in Jason Reitman's "Men, women, and children". Coincidentally, his high school friend, Ansel Elgort, also starred in that movie.

Also in 2014, he played Matthew McConaughey's character teenage son in "Interstellar". He didn't have a big role in that film but it definitely introduced him to the big leagues!

Indie films

He had sizable roles in several indie films, playing the younger version of writer Stephen Elliott in "The Adderall Diaries" (2015), the male lead, Zac, in the drama "One and Two" (2015), and Billy in the road trip drama "Miss Stevens" (2016)

On stage, he has appeared in the plays "The Talls", by Anna Kerrigan, and John Patrick Stanley's autobiographical "Prodigal Son". In an interview for "Prodigal Son", Timmy mentioned that he has a "me-against-the-world" mentality.

Timothée auditioned for the role of Spiderman in "Spiderman: Homecoming" in 2015 but he didn't get the part. Instead, it was given to Tom Holland, another young star in the rising.

Manchester by the sea

Timmy also auditioned for the role of Patrick in "Manchester by the sea" (2016) but he lost out to Lucas Hedges, who also stars with him in the Oscar-nominated "Lady Bird".

He broke out in 2017, appearing in a notable supporting role, as a soldier in the western "Hostiles". He was actually the only actor who auditioned for this movie. And he got the part, obviously.

Lady Bird

Timmy also stars as a high school crush of the title character in "Lady Bird" (2017) which had also been nominated to a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Call me by your name

But his breakthrough leading role as Elio, an Italian Jewish seventeen-year-old who romances his father's older assistant (played by Armie Hammer) in the Luca Guadagnino drama "Call me by your name" is what brought him to the spotlight and earned him several nominations and awards.

Timothée's role as Elio has received significant critical acclaim, and he has been nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and Academy Award for Best Actor as well as having won many critics' groups' awards for Best Actor of the Year.

Book vs Movie

In the novel, "Call me by your name" takes place at the height of the AIDS epidemic in 1987, but for the film adaptation, the director shifted the story to 1983, around the time HIV was discovered. Luca says that the disease will be explored in the sequel.

Visions of Gideon

During the fireplace scene, Timothée wore an earpiece that was playing "Visions of Gideon" to help him with his performance. That scene is priceless and you can see an enormous dedication.

Armie Hammer 1

Timothée called his co-star Armie Hammer his "tongue-wrestling partner" in his Best Actor of the Year acceptance speech at the 38th London Critics' Circle Film awards. He really likes to joke around!

Armie Hammer 2

Timmy actually made out with Armie Hammer on their first day on set. He told Ellen Degeneres in an interview that his onscreen chemistry with his co-star began the first day they met. "We're making out and making out and no one's saying stop," he said of their first rehearsal. What a way to break the ice!

Elizabeth Chambers

Timmy thanked Armie's wife, Elizabeth Chamber, for allowing him to "crawl all over her husband for two whole months". Timothee has a really great relationship with Armie Hammer and his wife.

Great prize

In 2017, he became the youngest winner of the NYFCC's Best Actor prize, for the movie "Call me by your name". He definitely came into this industry to stay, right?

Luca Guadagnino 1

"Call me by your name"'s director, Luca Guadagnino, considers the film to be a family one, that celebrates communication and building bridges. The movie has some explicit sex scenes, though.

Luca Guadagnino 2

The director also hopes that the movie will be the first installment of a long series, such as Before Sunrise, which has two more sequels. We definitely hope to see more of Elio and Oliver!

Thanks to the Academy

In response to his Oscar nomination, Timmy showed his gratitude by thanking Luca, Armie, and public arts funding. He also added: "Thank you to those that made this possible, and the academy for this recognition".

Two films, one nomination

He stars in two films that are currently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture: "Call me by your name" and "Lady Bird". We will have to wait until March 4th to know what will happen!

Making history

He is the third youngest nominee ever for the Academy Award for Best Actor and the youngest nominee since 1939. He is actually the first person born in the 1990s to have been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor.

Future plans

In 2018, he will star as Nic Sheff, (playing Steve Carell's son) who suffers from substance abuse problems, in the drama "Beautiful Boy". We can't wait to see him perform with such a great actor!

Woody Allen 1

He is also working in Woody Allen's next comedy, "A rainy day in New York" (2018), with Selena Gomez (and big cast), despite the controversy of working with this proclaimed director...

Woody Allen 2

When asked about working with Woody Allen during an interview with the CNN, he said: "When that film comes out-if it comes out-it's gonna be really important to talk about, but that's not the time right now."

Anyway, Timmy will be donating his entire salary from this film to three charity groups: Time's up, The LGBT Center in New York and RAINN. A Really good decision, was it?

First Kiss

Timothée revealed that his first kiss was on an elevator at the top of the Marriott in Times Square. Unfortunately for us, he didn't reveal who was the lucky one!

Jimmy Fallon

Timmy also revealed in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that there was a girl in the audience of the NY Film Festival Q&A that he was super excited to see, but he fell out of his chair and embarrassed himself (There's a hilarious video that proves it!)

Lourdes Leon

Timothee dated Madonna's daughter, Lourdes Leon. Although they broke up, Timmy said they ended on very good terms. As for now, he isn't dating anybody. Probably focusing on his uprising career.

Social Media

Supposedly, it is thought that Timmy may have deleted his social media (Instagram and Twitter) from his phone. We really doubt it because he is pretty active, at least on Instagram, lately.

Remember Timothée's name because he will stick around for a little while. Share this with your family, friends and fans!
